Roelands Map Roelands is a picturesque, quiet little township in the Harvey Shire, nestled at the foothills of the Darling Ranges, and on the crossroads to Collie. For many years Roelands was known as the Collie River Crossing and when the railway went through it was called Collie Siding.
Collie River was named after Alexander Collie who was with the party of explorers who found the north of the river in 1829. The following year in 1830 John Septimus Roe chose land on the Collie River (in the Roelands area), as a part of his entitlement of 5,000 acres, for bringing a large amount of capital into the colony. The first big quantity of coal from the Collie area was carted by road to the Collie Siding and then railed to Perth. As the Collie Siding became a busy place with the transport of timber and coal the Colliefields Hotel was built near the Siding. (Shire of Harvey 1895-1995: Proud to be 100 p.62)
