The Shire of Harvey has a coastline of approximately 42km stretching from the Leschenault Peninsula in the south to the boundary with the Shire of Waroona in the north. The Shire is located in a growth area of the State, but still retains large areas of relatively inaccessible coastline. The coastal towns of Binningup and Myalup are situated on the Shire of Harvey’s coast and are a popular holiday destination.
The coastline is currently faced with a number of pressures generated by increasing population growth and associated recreational use. These pressures will continue to grow as the Shire’s urban population expands.
The Shire of Harvey Coastal Management Plan was developed in 2006 to:
- Prepare management recommendations for coastal foreshore areas
- Protect and enhance the coastal environment
- Manage coastal land uses and
- Identify and provide for community-based coastal facilities. the Coastal Management Plan.
