The conservation of important aspects of the natural and built environment are essential in ensuring that future generations have access to parts of history that are reflective of a previous era. Whether this includes iconic landmarks, a forgone housing style rarely present in today’s land
scape or the natural landscapes of the Darling Ranges, the Shire’s Planning Department has a direct involvement in ensuring a positive outcome when development or other proposals are involved.
Measures are in place to ensure the identification and listing of heritage listed places, documented within the Shire’s Municipal Heritage Inventory. This important document identifies and details places of heritage value and provides greater powers to the Shire to ensure that any negative impacts from development are mitigated.
The Heritage Council of Western Australia also plays an important role in identifying and maintaining a registry of important places. If an Application is received regarding a proposal or development for a heritage listed place, comment is often sought from the Heritage Council to determine whether a proposal should go ahead in its current form.
