Asbestos

Fri, 17 Jun 2011 11:13:06 WST by , 6553 views

Asbestos is a naturally occurring material that was widely used in building materials up to 1987. It is commonly found in materials such as:

When such materials are left undisturbed they are relatively harmless. However, if the material is damaged or disturbed it may release fibres into the air. Exposure to asbestos fibres may cause a number of diseases including asbestosis, mesothelioma, lung cancer or pleural plaque. (Department of Health).

Only the disposal of small quantities of asbestos is allowed at the Richardson Road site, Harvey. Larger quantities must be directed to the Stanley Road site Leschenault by appointment, please phone 9797 2404.

Remember, asbestos must be wrapped and sealed in plastic and marked appropriately.

*Worksafe now require a licence when removing more than 10m² of asbestos.
