The inaugural SportDaze event will be hosted at the Leschenault Recreation Ground on Saturday, 5 November 2022.

Get together with your friends, family and local sporting clubs to celebrate the inclusive culture of sport and recreation within the Shire of Harvey.

Consisting of more than 50 sporting clubs and associations, the Shire welcomes players, coaches, umpires and volunteers from all sporting codes to join the local community for a day of fun. The Leschenault Recreation Ground will be activated with an exciting array of interactive health and sport workshops and activities, as well as food trucks and an outdoor cinema in the evening.

Take away tips to help develop and grow your club, be inspired to reach new sporting goals and connect with like-minded community members.

Leschenault Cricket Club

Our club was first established in 1978. In 2007, the club re-entered in the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association, completing the full offering for girls and boys, entry level to seniors. Since then, we have added veterans crickets and womens cricket. In 2021, we were awarded Cricket Australia's National Community Cricket Club of the Year. The club has over 500 members, with our home ground being the Leschenault Recreation Ground.

Come watch some of our teams play on Saturday, 5 November at SportDaze.

We will be hosting the following matches:

  • Junior matches: Ovals 3 and 4 - 8am to 12.15pm

Harvey-Benger Cricket Club

Harvey-Benger Cricket Club was established in 2004 when Harvey and Benger Cricket Clubs joined together to play in the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association (BDCA).
Our home is at the Harvey Recreation Ground in front of The Boundary.

We are excited to be a part of the inaugural SportDaze event on Saturday, 5 November 2022.

We will be competing against Leschenault Cricket Club teams on the day in the following matches:

  • Junior matches: Ovals 3 and 4 - 8am to 12.15pm
  • Senior matches: Ovals 3 and 4 - 12.30pm to 6pm

Rugby

Bunbury Barbarians Junior Rugby Union Club

Bunbury Barbarians Junior Rugby Union Club is an inclusive, family focused, junior sporting club.

Our junior club aim is for our players to meet new friends while they develop Rugby Union skills, fitness and confidence in a safe, fun and friendly team environment. Our emphasis is on providing opportunities for all our junior players to have a safe, enjoyable & rewarding rugby experience.

At Barbarians we believe in putting the kids first; kids having fun and enjoying playing rugby. All players need the opportunity to develop and this includes the emerging and the experienced players. To do this we need to enable our players to fully participate and thrive.

We are excited to be a part of the inclusive event that is SportDaze.

During the event, we will be:

  • Hosting games of mixed rugby touch tournaments
  • Tackle bag drills
  • Passing drills
  • Rugby competitions
  • Sausage sizzle

AFL

Harvey Brunswick Junior Football Club

With over 500 junior players and over 200 Auskick players registered with our club, HBL is one of the largest junior football clubs across the region. The 2022 season had 22 junior teams register across 11 grades. Playing on our home ground, the Leschenault Recreation Ground on Friday nights and Saturdays, we are excited to be a part of the inaugural SportDaze event.

On the day we will be providing a fun skills session for people of all skill levels.

We will also be hosting:

  • Specialised training and skills session for year 3-5 girls
  • Specialised training and skills session for year 6-7 girls
  • Girl's exhibition match

Netball

Souwest Jets - Mavericks Boys Academy

The Souwest Jets entered the State Netball competition in 1989. We have produced both State and National netballers and look forward to developing many more.

We do everything we can to help our local playing group realise their sporting dreams and ambitions.

Our 20's team is comprised of athletes from all over the South West region and we strive to give these athletes the best opportunity to compete at the highest level in the state GIG WANL Premier League.

In 2023 we are excited to be launching our Mavericks Boys Academy.

Head down to SportDaze at the Leschenault Recreation Ground on Saturday, 5 November 2022 to find out more about our club and the exciting launch of the Mavericks Boys Academy.

We will also be hosting:

  • Fast 5 Come and Try Netball for Boys (12.30pm to 2.30pm)

This session will be suitable for boys aged 13 to 18 who are interested in trying out netball and finding out more about our underpinning program and trials. Girls are also welcome to participate in our activities on the day.

Soccer

Australind Soccer Club

Australind Junior Soccer Club (AJSC) was established in 1983 and currently has approximately 350 to 400 registered players most seasons. With 34 teams competing in competitions run by Country Coastal Junior Soccer Association (CCJSA), we are the largest junior soccer club in the association.

Australind Soccer Club (ASC) was established in 1986. Fielding three men's and two women's teams in the South West Soccer Association (SWSA), we are one of the largest clubs in the South West.

With our home ground being the Leschenault Recreation Ground, we are excited to be participating in the inaugural SportDaze event on Saturday, 5 November 2022.

On the day, we will have:

  • Fun scratch matches (suitable for all ages and skill levels)
  • Test your skills workshops

 

Cycling and BMX

Three Chillies Design

Three Chillies Design has a documented and successful track record of creating competitive and enjoyable trails for a wide range of disciplines including:

  • Walking trails
  • Motorbike trails
  • Downhill
  • Cross country
  • Dirt jumps
  • Pump tracks

A fun and exciting pump track will be provided by Three Chillies Design at the inaugural SportDaze event.

 

Free Bike Parking

Free bike parking will be available throughout the SportDaze event. Bike parking will be available at the spectator fencing at archery. Please bring your own lock.

Boomerang

WA Boomerang Association

Established in 2016, we started our club to re-introduce sport boomerang throwing to WA. Boomerang throwing can be an individual or team sport, social or competitive. Our club focusses on inclusion and having fun. Sport boomerang throwing has tournaments at State, National and World levels.

Come visit us at SportDaze and try your hand at boomerang throwing.

At SportDaze, we will be hosting:

  • Beginners boomerang throwing session (with foam boomerangs)
  • Boomerang throwing session (focussing on skills and technique)

Archery

Bunbury Archery Club

Bunbury Archery Club was established in 1960 and has been running ever since. We are based at Leschenault Leisure Centre Recreation Sports Ground, on oval one. We meet every Sunday morning and shoot recurve, compound, longbow and barebow. The club currently has male, female and youth participants with a wide range of ages and abilities.

Bunbury Archery Club will be hosting the following sessions at SportDaze:

  • Archery demonstration session
  • "Have a Go" session

Artistic Swimming

Artistic Swimming is an Olympic sport that combines swimming with the dynamics of gymnastics and the grace of dance.

AquaStART Program - Artistic Swimming WA, with support from Royal Life Saving WA, are offering the opportunity to participate in a program targeted at providing an introduction to Artistic Swimming as well to aquatic skills and developing water safety. This participation program is targeted at children aged 6 to 13 to develop water safety as well as an introduction to Artistic Swimming.

The aim of the program is to:

  • Provide participants and families with a safe, welcoming, and inclusive first experience to artistic swimming
  • To foster personal achievement and satisfaction through skill acquisition and water confidence.
  • To inspire a love of the water and an interest in life-long participation in aquatic activities.

We will provide:

  • Information about how to become an artistic swimming instructor or participant
  • What programs are on offer
  • "Pattern Changing" activity (dryland experience in artistic swimming)

Tennis

Australind Tennis Club

Ace!

We are excited to announce that Australind Tennis Club will be at SportDaze on Saturday, 5 November.

Located opposite the Leschenault Leisure Centre (LLC), Australind Tennis Club  was established in 1979 with the original 4 courts built in the early 1980’s. Another 4 courts were added in 1985.  All 8 courts, which are under lights, were resurfaced in 2021 with Laykold Masters 8 cushioned acrylic surface.

The club will be hosting:

  • Youth Have a Go sessions
  • Small group coaching
  • Regular social program from 1.30pm - free to join on the day

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own racquets.

Head down to the tennis courts at 10am to watch our celebrity match between local tennis superstar Alifaye Gidgup and Shire President Paul Gillett.

KinderGym and Early Years Activities

The below KinderGym and Early Year Activities will be available at the inaugural SportDaze event:

  • Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre (HRCC) Kindy Gym Circuit from 9am to 12 noon (hosted by Kat McCaul from HRCC)
  • Toddler challenge inflatable will be available for a day of fun
  • A fun bubble activity will provide hours of fun for all ages
  • Sport Storytime: Shire of Harvey Libraries will host an interactive sports themed storytime from 1pm
  • Mess n Me activities from 10am to 12 noon
Wheelchair Sports

Wheelchair Sports South West will be hosting wheelchair basketball, display games and "have a go" opportunities.

 

Freestyle Skate

Freestyle Now

Freestyle Now specialises in entertaining stunt show performances, skatepark coaching workshops, well managed skatepark competitions, motivational school presentations, as well as youth orientated events and programs. From humble beginnings in 1986 to present, Freestyle Now has always retained a fundamental ethos of courtesy, respect, inclusiveness and diversity.

We are very excited to be participating in the inaugural SportDaze event at the Leschenault Recreation Ground on Saturday, 5 November 2022.

We will be hosting the following sessions at the Leschenault Skatepark:

  • Freestyle skate - beginners coaching (11am to 12 noon)
  • Freestyle skate - parent information session (12 noon to 12.15pm)
  • Freestyle skate - jam session (12.30pm to 2pm)

Magical Park is an interactive and fun digital world for children and families to explore through an app on their mobile device.

This exciting initiative was made possible thanks to funding received for the inaugural SportDaze event. Attendees will also be able to interact and engage with the family friendly digital world during the SportDaze event on Saturday, 5 November 2022.

Parkour

X5 Academy

Watch in amazement as X5 Academy's parkour professional athletes push the boundaries of what's possible. Performing every trick in the book with their interactive shows and performances, X5 Academy hosts family fun activities that cater to all ages and abilities. The team regularly requests volunteers from the audience in their performances as well as teaching the basics of parkour during their inclusive workshops.

Lot 208 Youth Inc.

Lot 208 Youth Incorporated is a not-for-profit organisation proudly supported by the Shire of Harvey, located on Mulgara Street next to Australind library. Lot 208 Youth Inc has been delivering youth services within the Shire of Harvey for over 20 years (previously known has The Escape). Lot 208 Youth Inc. aims to provide support, promote growth, and encourage positive development in young people, families, and the broader community in the Shire. The services are delivered by a small team of highly skilled Youth Workers (minimum of Certificate IV in Youth Work or Community Services) as well as volunteers.

Lot 208 Youth Inc. is excited to be a part of SportDaze for 2022. 

On the day, we will be hosting a pop-up station near the Leschenault Skatepark where attendees will be able to find out more about the services of our organisation. We will also have a table for children to play and try fun activities.

Karate

GKR Karate

Go-Kan-Ryu (GKR) Karate is a family club that is dedicated to fostering sound values and developing strong, humble, brave individuals and healthy communities. Providing training in the discipline of traditional Japanese style karate, GKR Karate is taught in a non-contact environment and promotes both character and physical development. GKR is a club for all ages and promotes self-defence, fitness, coordination, discipline, confidence and stress relief.

GKR Karate representatives will be joining us at SportDaze on Saturday, 5 November 2022, to share more information about the club, the sport and how you can join in the fun.

WA iSports

WA iSports

WA iSports Incorporated has a talented team of individuals who are passionate about building an inclusive community that embraces diversity and provides opportunities for all members. It provides competition pathways for those that wish to further their experiences. Our primary focus is to provide a diverse range of sporting programs for all members of the community. We specifically cater for people with Intellectual Disability and/or those who are on the Autism Spectrum, taking into account individual needs, personal goals and preferences.

Community Workshops at The Pav

9.15am Managing Conflict and Difficult People - Presented by Ian Crawford

Although the main focus of sport is to have fun and maintain physical and mental fitness, the competitive nature of parents, players, coaches and supporters can introduce situations of conflict.

This workshop will focus on tips, tricks and strategies that you and your organisation can implement to quickly and simply reduce and manage conflict.

Delivered by Ian Crawford, an international speaker and coach who has worked directly with sporting organisations for over 3 decades, Ian is known for his high energy and engaging workshops.

Ian will also be offering one-on-one 15 minute workshops for clubs and associations:

Recruiting outside the box (Rethinking volunteer engagement) - Presented by Shamara Williams - POSTPONED

Volunteers play an integral part in local sporting clubs and organisations. Therefore, an appropriate recruitment process must be adopted to ensure that the needs of the club or organisation, as well as the volunteer, is met.

Shamara Williams, Manager of Volunteer South West will be workshopping ideas on how you can spruce up your search for volunteers to ensure you’re getting the right fit for your sporting club and organisation.

This workshop will be hosted at The Pavillion.

11.15am LGTBQIA+ Education 101 - Presented by Proud 2 Play

This workshop will help prepare participants with an introduction to LGBTIQ+ inclusion in sport and movement settings. The session is ideal for those organisations or individuals who have never engaged in LGBTIQ+ inclusion, or recently started working with LGBTIQ+ communities.

Key learning units will include: Introduction to working with LGBTIQ+ communities, LGBTIQ+ inclusive language and terminology, LGBTIQ+ people’s experiences of sport and movement settings.

All aspects of our lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although times may be tough, now more than ever it is essential that we work together to adapt our businesses, clubs and organisations to thrive in this 'new' world we live in.

Winner of the 2022 and 2021 WA Club of the Year in multiple categories, the Leederville Sporting Club has achieved membership growth from 140 to 980 people in less than two years. Hear how they did it, and how to grow and diversify revenue, to help your Club thrive.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

SportDaze is a celebration of the culture of sport and recreation within the Shire of Harvey and we are proud that it is accessible and inclusive to the whole community.

Care has been taken to partner with valuable providers such as Wanslea and APM, WA ISports and Wheelchair Sports to ensure there is something for everyone to have a go.

We have taken advice from SWAN to ensure that a “chill out zone” will be available on the day to provide a breakaway area for people who are neurodiverse or require a break from the hustle and bustle of the event.

Leschenault Leisure Centre Creche

The Leschenault Leisure Centre (LLC) Creche will be open to SportDaze attendees from 9am to 4pm. Conditions apply, click here for more information.

In addition to normal creche conditions, the below will apply to all those looking to utilise creche services on the day.

  • Children must be aged 8 weeks to 10 years of age
  • 1 hour limit per session
  • All admissions to the creche must adhere to the illness policy
  • No bookings required but strictly limited numbers
  • Parent / Caregiver must remain contactable and within LLC at all times (to ensure we remain in compliance to National Regulations)
  • Enrolment Form must be fully completed
  • No food other than cut up fruit and vegetable can be taken into crèche – Strictly no nut policy

SportDaze DJ - DJ Arkana

DJ Arkana is an electronic artist of multigenre music. This legend lives and breathes music and plays all styles from top 40s, house party, reggae, techno, hip hop, bass, EDM and more.

She's an all-rounder, creating her own style that makes her stand out from other DJs. Arkana also sings and raps over psychedelic hiphop, drum and bass, house and experimental tunes.

Arkana is a super friendly, positive vibe and loves a good story, always bringing something fresh and creating a great atmosphere.

Limited to 150 passports, the first 90 will receive a free reusable water pouch.

Outdoor Cinema - Evening Activity

After a day of fun and excitement, join us for a relaxing wind down at the outdoor cinema on Oval 6, near the Leschenault Pavillion. With 150 bean bags and a variety of food and beverage options available from surrounding food trucks and the Pavillion, enjoy a relaxing night at the Leschenault Recreation Grounds.
