First time parenting program

This program is for mums and dads with a newborn. Whether this is your first child, second or third, it doesn’t matter.

Parents can hear a talk from the community health care nurse on tips about looking after your newborn. Library staff can also advice on parenting resources we have available.

First time parenting is coordinated by the local community health care nurse in partnership with the libraries.

Where and when

Meetings are held at the Australind Library every two months.

Contact us if you require more information on how to book your spot.

Better Beginnings family literacy program

Shire of Harvey Libraries are pleased to be part of the Better Beginnings initiative.

The Better Beginnings Family Literacy Program is an initiative coordinated by the State Library of WA and partially funded by Rio Tinto WA Future Fun. The program aims to foster the love to read, write, sing and talk with your child.

The Better beginnings program encourages parents to support their child by:

  • Reading aloud together everyday
  • Talking about the story and the pictures
  • Choosing books together at your local library

Free reading kits are available for parents of newborns and two year olds:

  • For newborns – collect your kit from your community health care nurse
  • For two year olds – collect your kit from any Shire of Harvey library.

There are some great literacy resources you and your child can access on the Better Beginnings website.
