Learn how the Moodjar plays a role in Noongar cultural stories. Explore the changing colours from the Djilba season, from bright yellow blossoms to the burnt yellow and orange colours of the Moodjar (Christmas Tree). Gather to listen to a Dreaming story and learn about the significance of the Moodjar.

This session highlights respect for and custodianship of cultural knowledge while exploring the deep relationship between people, place and culture.

Worala is the Noongar word for weather. Explore the changes in wind direction and weather associated with the Kambarang season.

Learn to identify wind directions in the Noongar Bindjarep dialect and discover how these changes relate to the season.

Explore animal behaviour during the Kambarang season and learn to recognise signs of wildlife activity.

As native plants bloom and flowers flourish, reptiles become more active. Discover how ‘yoorn’ (bobtail lizards), ‘noorn’ (snakes) and ‘yoorndi’ (skinks) emerge in search of food and water.

This session will also identify common plants found on Country and explore their significance during the Kambarang season.

Kambarang is a season of plenty (boola-boola), a time when food sources are abundant and gathering and harvesting take place.

Explore how plants provide sustenance and medicinal benefits during Kambarang. This season also brings beautiful wildflowers and offers an opportunity to celebrate new life and growth while walking on Boodja (Country).

Celebrate the launch of Kaartdijin Dandjoo at this welcoming community gathering with light refreshments and bush teas.

Explore the foundations of Noongar culture and earn how symbols are used as visual language, and gain insight into the Noongar six seasons.

Learn symbols for family, camp, waterholes, sun and shelter and be guided through drawing practice.

Study animal tracks and learn to interpret track patterns.

Create a symbolic story inspired by Noongar storytelling traditions.

Discover the Djilba program with other participants at this friendly meet and greet. Share a yarn over light refreshments, snacks and bush teas and learn the next steps.

Introducing Waagal, a large serpent from the Dreaming that features in many stories across Country. This session explores the different stories of Waagal and the serpent’s important role within them, providing insight into Noongar creation stories and their connection to Country.

During Djilba, many plants across Country begin to bloom, bringing an abundance of flowers and new growth. Many of these plants have important cultural uses. This session will introduce key plants commonly found on Country and explore their cultural significance.
