Booking Information
The Shire maintains a variety of venues suitable for different events:
- Halls/Pavilion: Facilities with kitchen, disability access. Ideal for performances, exhibitions, meetings, workshops, dance classes, weddings or family gatherings.
- Recreation Grounds: can be used for functions with approval.
- Recreation Centre: Facility with basketball and netball courts, change rooms, and kitchen.
- Reserves and Gardens: Amphitheatres, gardens, and reserves. Ideal for concerts, cultural events, or wedding ceremonies, with electricity available for a fee (not to all reserves).
To book a venue or community facility, you need to know that:
- Bookings are required by anyone wanting to conduct an organised activity, including birthday parties.
- Assessment may take up to 10 working days.
- Payment of the invoice and any required bond is necessary to secure the booking.
- Public liability insurance is required for organisations, schools, sporting groups, and fitness classes.
- Alcohol in Shire venues requires a liquor license, with BYO rules and limits on drinks per person depending on event size.
- Event permits are required for selling alcohol or charging entry fees.
You will be required to pay a bond on some grounds, halls and recreation centre bookings.
To calculate the cost of the bond, the following definitions may be helpful:
- A ‘Local organisation’ is any person that is currently living within the Shire.
- An ‘Outside organisation’ is any person that does not live within the Shire.
The venue will be assessed after the booking and the bond will be refunded, provided there isn’t any damage to the venue.
To ensure a smooth booking, please:
- Book early to ensure availability on your preferred date.
- Bonds are refundable if the venue is left undamaged, this can take up to 10 working days to get to your bank.
- Ensure a responsible person over 18 is present for events involving alcohol.
- Check specific venue capacities and facilities to match your event needs.
Any Event with alcohol in public or Shire-owned venues requires a liquor licence.
Small Function Occasional Licences
For events where:
- Alcohol is free
- Guests bring their own alcohol (BYO)
For Consumption or Small Function Occasional Licenses:
- Apply 2 weeks before the event
- Responsible person must be present, over 18, with photo ID
- Keep the permit approval on-site.
The sale or supply of liquor at a function (where the serving of liquor is ancillary to the purpose of the function) is exempt from the Act, provided:
- Up to 75 people, 4 hours max, ending by 10pm, 4 drinks per person.
- Up to 100 people, 2 hours max, ending by 10pm, 2 drinks per person.
If approved, you will be sent a confirmation approval email and invoiced, where applicable. This invoice needs to be paid by the due date shown on the invoice or by the event date if this comes first. The facility isn’t secured until your payment is received.

Frequently Asked Questions
The general public will continue to have access to reserves and its facilities. The area will not be roped off or otherwise restricted.
A booking confirmation will be issued outlining the location, date and time of the booking. This will ensure that the relevant Shire staff are aware of your booking and can distinguish it from general use of reserves.
No, barbecues and other facilities such as road ramps cannot be booked for exclusive use. You are able to use them, but they must remain accessible to the general public.
