Active now – Housing Advisory Group Expressions of Interest
The Shire of Harvey is seeking expressions of interest from community members who are passionate about housing and aged care issues to join the Housing Advisory Group (HAG).
HAG provides advice to the Shire on the planning, development and provision of affordable housing, over-55 housing and aged care accommodation across the Harvey Region. The Group also advocates for community needs and identifies opportunities for partnerships, funding and future housing initiatives.
HAG members will meet quarterly, with additional meetings convened as required. Community representatives will be appointed for a two-year term, with the option for reappointment. Membership will be reviewed periodically to ensure diversity and representation.

What you need to know
The HAG will:
- Provide input on the strategic planning, development and enhancement of affordable housing, over-55 housing and aged care accommodation.
- Advocate for the needs and aspirations of people over-55 requiring affordable housing.
- Identify opportunities for funding, grants and partnerships that support housing initiatives.
- Act as a conduit between the Shire, housing providers, government agencies and the community.
- Provide advice on current and projected housing needs within the Harvey Region.
The Housing Advisory Group will include:
- Elected Members of Council.
- Shire staff representatives.
- Representatives from relevant government agencies.
- Representatives from affordable housing, over-55 housing and aged care providers.
- Up to three community representatives from across the Harvey Region.
Applicants should demonstrate:
- An interest in affordable housing, over-55 housing and/or aged care accommodation.
- A commitment to supporting housing outcomes within the Shire of Harvey.
- Knowledge, lived experience or professional experience relevant to housing, aged care or community development.
- An ability to contribute constructively to discussions and strategic planning.
- A willingness to attend meetings and actively participate in the Group’s activities.
- A commitment to serve for a two-year term.

All Expressions of Interest will be reviewed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), or their delegate, against the selection criteria outlined in this application. Applications will be assessed based on the applicant’s demonstrated interest, experience, knowledge and ability to contribute to the objectives of the Housing Advisory Group.
In considering appointments, the CEO will seek to establish a Housing Advisory Group that reflects a diversity of perspectives, expertise, geographic representation and lived experience from across the Harvey Region. Preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate experience or involvement in affordable housing, over-55 housing, aged care accommodation, community services, housing advocacy, planning, development or related sectors.
The CEO may also consider the overall composition of the Group to ensure balanced representation from community members, service providers, housing organisations and key stakeholders.
Submission of an Expression of Interest does not guarantee appointment to the Housing Advisory Group. The CEO reserves the right to seek further information from applicants, invite applicants to discuss their submission, or determine that no appointment be made from a particular Expression of Interest process. Successful applicants will be notified in writing following completion of the assessment process.
