There were 320 residential building permits approved within the Shire of Harvey in the financial year 2020-2021.
Approvals for residential buildings increased by 54.4 per cent from the previous year. The number of approvals is the highest since the 2013-2014 financial year with a construction value of $85 million.
Shire of Harvey President Paul Gillett said the Shire has witnessed an increasing number of people seeking approvals to build new housing during the past twelve months.
“The appeal of living in the beautiful Shire, record low borrowing costs and a range of government incentives have contributed to a seven year high in residential building approvals,” Cr Gillett said.
“With an industry wide shortage of Building Surveyors, I would personally like to thank all our staff within Building Services for their valued contribution and hard work during this time.
“The close distance to major regional cities, our beautiful coastline and most importantly affordability and liveability within the Shire is what people are looking for.
“Whether you want to retire or raise a family, our Shire has it all. It certainly is a fantastic place to be.”
