We are a 5 Ribbon Shire!

The Shire of Harvey has earned 5 Ribbons from the RoadWise Council.

Ribbons highlight a local government's better practice in the planning and delivery of road safety initiatives.

Below is a snapshot from our 2025 Roadwise Report.

 

What we have done

Road Safety Governing Principle
  • We added practical, research-backed road safety frameworks to our policies.
Road Safety Management Activities
  • We checked current road safety skills and resources and started planning key improvements.
Road Manager Planning Authority Activities
  • We built new footpaths and improved existing footpaths to make walking safer and easier.
  • We assessed local roads to guide future safety plans and investments.
  • We added safety features like sealed shoulders and audible edge lines to key roads.
Fleet Manager and Employer Activities
  • We provided staff training opportunities to strengthen road safety expertise.
Leadership and Community Development
  • We promoted road safety.
  • We worked with community groups and stakeholders to identify and address road safety issues.

 

What we are working on

Action 1
  • We are using the WALGA RoadWise LG Stars tool to check safety risks. About 77km of roads have been assessed so far.
Action 2
  • We are assessing road safety resources using the WALGA checklist and we have started planning priority actions.
Action 3
  • We are creating a template for local traffic and speed management policies to help reduce speeding and improve safety.
