Volunteers will swap their sausage sizzles for microphones in the Shire of Harvey’s new initiative to uplift community members that make the Harvey Region a better place.
Voices of Volunteering will feature a 12-week promotional program developed in partnership with Harvey Community Radio and Volunteer South West.
The campaign will include radio shows highlighting volunteers and volunteer groups across the Harvey Region, alongside a digital film series sharing the personal stories, experiences and motivations of local volunteers.
Shire of Harvey President Michelle Campbell said the campaign would give insight into the people behind community organisations, events and services that freely give a helping hand across the Region.
“About 18.1 per cent of people living in the Harvey Region are volunteers and their contributions touch every part of community life,” the Shire President said.
“Volunteers organise incredible agricultural shows, provide critical emergency services, help our sporting clubs thrive, support students and schools, as well as deliver a range of activities, programs and projects.
“Voices of Volunteering will celebrate the stories behind the service and showcase the incredible diversity of volunteering across the Harvey Region.
“Ultimately, we want people to know that there is a place for everyone in volunteering, whether they can give an hour a month or weekly dedication, and we’re excited to work with our friends at Harvey Community Radio and Volunteer South West to spread this message.”
The Voices of Volunteering announcement sits alongside National Volunteer Week, which celebrates volunteers in communities across Australia.
Volunteer South West Manager Shamara Williams said she was thrilled to see organisations rally to deliver a campaign designed to uplift and inspire.
“Every volunteer has a story and every act of volunteering makes a difference,” Ms Williams said.
“This campaign creates a platform for volunteers to share their experiences in their own words while encouraging greater awareness of the many opportunities available in our region.
“Volunteer South West is thrilled to help bring this campaign to life and create a lasting record of volunteer stories that community members can share and learn from for many years to come.”
Harvey Community Radio Chairperson David Marshall said the Station was similarly proud to support the campaign.
“Harvey Community Radio is a volunteer-run station, so we understand firsthand the incredible impact they have,” Mr Marshall said.
“On top of that, community radio is all about connection and storytelling, making this a perfect fit for our station,” Mr Marshall said.
“Filming and radio interviews will be taking place very soon. Keep an eye on the Shire of Harvey Facebook page to discover when they hit the airwaves!”
