The Myalup landscape is getting a vibrant new addition with the completion of Eyes in the Night, a community bus stop mural painted by local artist Astrid Birt of Fresh Tracks Farm. The stunning artwork is set to officially join the celebrated Harvey Region Art Trail.
Inspired by the local 100 Acre Wood and Lake Josephine, Eyes in the Night celebrates Myalup’s rich biodiversity, turning a spotlight on the unique creatures that emerge after dark. The project represents a deeply personal milestone for Astrid, marking her very first official mural.
“As someone who lives here, raises my family here, and spends so much time observing and painting our local flora and fauna, it feels incredibly meaningful to contribute to the Myalup community,” she said.
“I hope it sparks curiosity about the animals that share this landscape with us and encourages people to look a little closer when the sun goes down.”
The project that began with an idea from the Myalup Community Association. The initiative was a true community effort, brought to life through a collaborative funding model and hands-on local participation:
● Joint Funding: Provided by the Myalup Community Association and the Shire of Harvey.
● Coordination: Organized and facilitated by Karmen King on behalf of the MCA.
● Material Support: Premium paint was generously donated by Dulux.
● Community Spirit: Locals of all ages pitched in to help paint and bring the vision to life.
While the physical mural is currently awaiting its final installation at the designated Myalup bus stop, it has already been formally inducted into the regional arts network. Art enthusiasts and tourists can already locate Eyes in the Night on the official Harvey Region Art Trail map.
The new artwork replaces a previous painting which had lived in the bus stop, created by the late Graeme McPherson.
