Occupancy permit application
An Occupancy Permit is required for Class 2–9 commercial buildings under the Building Act 2011 in the following cases:
- Occupying a newly completed building
- Occupying a partially incomplete building or on a temporary basis
- Modifying a current occupancy permit for additional temporary use
- Occupying a building that requires a permanent change of use
- Obtaining approval for unauthorised building work
- Replacing an existing occupancy permit or certificate of classification
Application requirements
- Review the checklist in the Building Information Sheet – Occupancy Permit Application.
- Complete the BA9 – Application for Occupancy Permit form.
Application fees and levies
- Fees and levies are outlined in the Building Information Sheet – Fees and Charges.
- Information on the Building Services Levy is available from the WA Government website.
- A Construction Training Fund (CTF) levy applies to unauthorised building work valued at $20,000 or more. The CTF levy must be paid directly to the Construction Training Fund via their online payment portal.
Lodging an application
- Applications can be emailed to shire@harvey.wa.gov.au.
- Payment is required when submitting your application.
- A Shire Building Services officer will contact you by phone for credit card payment or completion of Credit card authorisation form.
- Alternatively, applications can be submitted in person at the Shire Administration Office’s or via Australia Post.
