Review of Local Laws – Shire of Harvey
Notice is hereby given that the Shire of Harvey intends to conduct a review of its local laws in accordance with section 3.16 of the Local Government Act 1995.
The purpose of the review is to consider whether the Shire’s local laws should be retained, amended, or repealed to ensure they remain relevant, effective, and consistent with current legislation and community needs.
Inspection of Local Laws
Copies of the local laws may be inspected:
- At the Shire of Harvey Administration Office, 102 Uduc Road, Harvey WA 6220, or 7 Mulgara Street, Australind WA 6233, during normal business hours; and
- On the Shire’s website: www.harvey.wa.gov.au/documents-and-forms/
Submissions
Members of the public are invited to make written submissions regarding any of the local laws under review, including suggestions to retain, amend, or repeal provisions.
Submissions must:
- Be made in writing
- Clearly identify the local law(s) being commented on
- Be received by the Shire no later than Monday, 23 March 2026.
Submissions can be lodged:

- In person at the Shire Administration Offices.
Following the close of submissions, a report will be prepared for Council’s consideration in accordance with section 3.16 of the Act.

The Shire holds regular ceremonies throughout the year; Australia Day along with two to three other ceremonies per year.
The time varies between three and six months after you have received approval from the Department of Home Affairs. Note that the waiting time starts from the date of approval, not the interview date.
The Shire will advise on the location of the ceremony in your invitation.
The Shire endeavours to give you as much notice as possible, however this usually ranges between four to six week prior to the ceremony in the form of an email invite.

Usually no more than 10 per family however this may change depending on the current Department of Health guidelines.
Upon check in you are required to prove your identity; an Australian driver’s licence or if you do not hold a driver’s licence additional forms of identification may include: passport, credit cards, Medicare card or bills showing your name and current address.
The citizenship ceremony generally takes an hour depending on the number of participants.
Smart attire is encouraged.

If you have lost your citizenship certificate you must contact the Department of Home Affairs to arrange for a replacement.
