Harvey’s much-loved Meriden Park is set to receive an inclusive upgrade; with plans unveiled to the Access and Inclusion Advisory Group showcasing a brand-new Changing Places facility and universally accessible public toilet block.
The Shire of Harvey is delivering this project for $574,000 with a contribution of $224,795 from Department of Communities. These additions mark a significant step forward in ensuring that everyone in the community can enjoy the park’s amenities with comfort and dignity.
The new amenities will feature a Changing Places facility – a fully equipped adult changing space designed to meet national standards and accessible via a MLAK (Master Locksmiths Access Key) system; a Universal Access Toilet (UAT), and a male and a female ambulant cubicle.
The Changing Places facility will be conveniently located at the entry to the pool, ensuring convenience for users. The Advisory Group contributed valuable feedback and improvements that have been implemented such as a sliding door in lieu of a swing door on the UAT cubicle for increased ease of access for wheelchair users.
Scheduled to begin in November this year, construction is planned with minimal disruption to the pool and skate park, allowing the community to continue enjoying the space throughout the works. Additional information will be made available closer to the date.
This project forms part of the Meriden Park Master Plan upgrade that includes an all-abilities playground, public toilets, an enclosed dog exercise area and modified car parking to accommodate the precinct’s needs with additional drop-off zones and parking for school buses and long vehicles.
