We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join the Health Services Business Unit.
Do you have?
- Tertiary level qualification - Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent acceptable to the Executive Director of Public Health.
- Comprehensive knowledge of environmental health principles and legislation
- Eligibility for appointment as an authorised person under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 in relation to control of noise, illegal dumping and unauthorised discharges.
We are seeking applications for a 12-month, fulltime or part time/job share maternity leave opportunity as an Environmental Health Officer. Students in their last semester of studies may be considered.
The Environmental Health Officer works as part of a small team contributing to the protection and promotion of people's health. Environmental health at the Shire of Harvey covers a wide range of public and environmental health fields which include mosquito management, food safety, drinking water, recreational water and aquatic water safety, caravan parks and camping grounds, trading and events. It offers challenging and rewarding work. The position is well supported in a small team of dedicated professionals.

Benefits and conditions
Conditions of employment are prescribed by the Local Government Officers’ (WA) Award 2021 and Shire’s Enterprise Agreement with a salary payable for this position of between Level 6 ($85,720) to Level 7 ($97,556) per annum, dependent on qualifications and experience and benefits such as:
- 12-month Maternity Leave position, fulltime or part time/job share.
- Superannuation of 12 per cent occupational superannuation from date of commencement, with an opportunity that the Shire will match an employee’s voluntary contribution to their nominated plan provided that employee contributes an amount of at least 5 per cent or 6 per cent of their own salary.
- A mobile phone for business use in accordance with Shire Policy.
- Located at the Harvey Administration Building.
- Four weeks paid annual leave, including 17.5 per cent leave loading.
- Free membership to the Leschenault Leisure Centre, the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre and the Dr Peter Topham Memorial Swimming Pool.
- A medical examination and current police clearance will be required prior to appointment, costs to be reimbursed by the Shire.
