Applications are welcome from artists, designers or creative teams with experience in public art and large-scale installations. Both emerging and established practitioners are encouraged to apply.
The successful artist or team will be required to:
- Meet with Shire officers on at least two occasions to discuss design and construction requirements
- Facilitate one community workshop to seek input and incorporate feedback into the design
- Design and construct a double-sided entry statement using durable materials to ensure longevity, with a minimum lifespan of 20 years
- Ensure the final design complies with Main Roads Western Australia frangibility requirements for roadside installations
Depending on the design, permits may be required. It will be the artist’s responsibility to obtain any relevant approvals.
Following the Expression of Interest process:
- Two artists will be shortlisted to develop concept designs
- Each shortlisted artist will receive $600 plus GST (if applicable) as compensation for their concept submission
- One artist will be selected and commissioned to deliver the full design and construct project
- The successful artist will be required to enter into an Artwork Commission Agreement
Expressions of Interest must include:
- Artist contact details
- A statement outlining your connection to the region or interest in the project
- An artistic statement describing your approach and vision for the entry statement
- Two to three examples of previous relevant work (maximum total file size 20MB)
- Acknowledgement of your ability to meet the project requirements and timeframe
The budget for the final commission is $40,000 plus GST (if applicable) and includes:
- Design and construction of the entry statement
- All materials, fabrication and installation costs, including anti-graffiti materials
- Meetings and community engagement activities
- Licensing for future use of images of the artwork by the Shire of Harvey
Expressions of Interest will be assessed by representatives of the Shire of Harvey. Applicants will be advised of the outcome once the process is complete.
