Governance Officer

Governance Officer

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Governance Officer to join the Governance and Strategy Business Unit.

Do you have?

  • Certificate IV in Business, Administration, Governance or current experience in a similar role
  • Ability to provide confidential and comprehensive administrative support within a complex political environment
  • Understanding of the Local Government Act 1995, or the ability to interpret legislation
  • Experience preparing agendas and minutes
  • Professional interpersonal, problem solving and negotiation skills

You will be proactive, forward thinking and able to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment.  This role is responsible for providing administrative and governance support to the Chief Executive Officer, Council, Executive Leadership Team and staff. You will be responsible for preparing and distributing Council agendas and minutes ensuring accuracy and the smooth and efficient operation of Council meetings.

Benefits and conditions

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Local Government Officers’ (WA) Award 2021 with a salary range between Level 5 ($80,577 to $84,509) per annum depending on qualifications and experience and benefits such as:

  • Superannuation of 12 per cent occupational superannuation from date of commencement, with an opportunity that the Shire will match an employee’s voluntary contribution to their nominated plan provided that employee contributes an amount of at least 5 per cent or 6 per cent of their own salary.
  • Full-time position, located at the Harvey Administration Building. Flexible working conditions will on occasion be required for the successful applicant. This may include working of an evening.
  • One rostered day off is available after every 19 working days.  Rostered days off cannot be accumulated.
  • Four weeks paid annual leave, including a 17.5 per cent leave loading.
  • Free membership to the Leschenault Leisure Centre, the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre and the Dr Peter Topham Memorial Swimming Pool.
  • A probationary period of three months is applicable to the position.
  • A medical examination and current police clearance will be required prior to appointment, costs to be reimbursed by the Shire.
