Do you have?

  • Relevant qualifications such as a Certificate IV (Business, Administration, Governance) or substantial experience in a similar governance role within Local Government.
  • Strong knowledge of the Local Government Act 1995 and related regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply them in practice.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills — including preparing complex reports, drafting policies, and local laws.
  • Research and analytical skills to review, interpret, and provide advice on legislation, policy, and governance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, or guide others and a desire to develop leadership capability in a governance setting.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism when dealing with sensitive or confidential matters.

We’re seeking applications for a 12-month, full-time maternity leave opportunity as Senior Governance Officer. This key role leads the delivery of contemporary governance and risk services, ensuring legislative compliance while fostering a culture of accountability, efficiency, and transparency throughout the organisation.

Benefits and Conditions

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Local Government Officers’ (WA) Award 2021 with a salary range of Level 7 ($92,816 to $97,556) per annum, depending on qualifications and experience and benefits such as:

  • Superannuation of 12 per cent occupational superannuation from date of commencement, with an opportunity that the Shire will match an employee’s voluntary contribution to their nominated plan provided that employee contributes an amount of at least 5 per cent or 6 per cent of their own salary.
  • 12-month fulltime Maternity Leave position, one day off is available after every 19 working days, rostered days off cannot be accumulated.
  • Located at the Harvey Administration Building however you may be required to work at other locations throughout the Shire as directed by your reporting officer.
  • Four weeks paid annual leave, including a 17.5 per cent leave loading.
  • Free membership to the Leschenault Leisure Centre, the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre and the Dr Peter Topham Memorial Swimming Pool.    
  • A probationary period of three months is applicable to this position.
  • A medical examination and a current police clearance will be required prior to appointment, costs to be reimbursed by the Shire.
