Due to the Australind Jetty becoming unsafe it has been closed off to the public by the Shire on behalf of the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
The jetty is unsafe to walk on due to erosion of the planks along the jetty.
The jetty is not owned or managed by the Shire of Harvey and investigations are underway in regards to the ongoing maintenance of the jetty.
The Jetty is formally known as Laporte’s Boardwalk/Jetty as it was named after a former British company, La Porte Industries, established as a titanium extraction plant in Australind in the 1960s.
Under the Laporte Industrial Factory Agreement Act of 1961 the Company constructed and established a factory in 1965 capable of producing 10,000 tonnes of titanium dioxide per annum using the sulphate process.
The Jetty is part of the infrastructure built by the State Government in the 1960s.
We apologise that the jetty can’t be enjoyed at this time, but we are working hard to ensure that the jetty is repaired and back open to the community in the near future.
