The Harvey region is one step closer to achieving its tourism potential with a leading placemaking agency selected to develop two tourism strategies.

The Harvey region is one step closer to achieving its tourism potential, with the contract for the Shire of Harvey’s Tourism Development Strategy and Visitor Servicing-Signage Strategy awarded to leading Australian placemaking firm We Are Best.

We Are Best are dedicated to designing experiences and places that bring people together.

Past clients include the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, Albury City, Goulburn River Valley Tourism, LotteryWest, Parks Victoria. Western Australian born and educated team member Clayton Edwards was also part of the activation of the State Buildings precinct in Perth and Northbridge’s Alex Hotel.

We Are Best Founder and Chief Experience Officer Jacob Burke said “we are thrilled to be appointed to this exciting and important strategy role and look forward to working closely with the local community and Shire stakeholders to understand, define and leverage what the future visitor economy looks like.”

The Shire of Harvey’s Tourism Development Strategy will set out a five-year vision for the future development of the Harvey region; identifying targeted projects and initiatives that maximise the region’s main assets.

Concurrently, the Visitor Servicing and Signage Strategy will recommend visitor servicing options, including visitor centres, tourist signage, wayfinding, information bays and interpretive signage.

Shire of Harvey Chief Executive Officer Annie Riordan said the Shire’s Economic Development Strategy 2020-2025, released in 2020 was instrumental in identifying Tourism as a focus area for the Harvey region.

“We are now taking the next steps to bring this vision to reality and achieving our aspiration for a vibrant and sustainable future,” Ms Riordan said.

"The Harvey region has a plethora of untapped assets with the potential to be further enhanced and promoted for visitors and residents alike.”

Consultation with the tourism industry, key stakeholders and the community will begin in February.
