The Shire was successful in obtaining a Mitigation Activity Fund Grant from the State Government.

The Shire of Harvey will carry out a range of bushfire mitigation activities in our community thanks to a grant from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).

Shire of Harvey President Paul Gillett said bushfire safety is a shared responsibility that included property owners.

“Reducing the risk of bushfires in the Shire is something we all need to be aware of, and we encourage all property owners to be fire safe all year round,” Cr Gillett said.

“The additional funding we’ve received for bushfire mitigation works will help reduce the risk of bushfires within our Shire.”

The $104,000 grant from the DFES Rural Fire Division’s Mitigation Activity Fund Grants Program will used to reduce the bush fire risk with the installation of fire access tracks, mechanical works and prescribed burning. These works are planned to be completed in reserves within Australind, Harvey and Leschenault in 2021-2022.

Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby said the State Government is committed to doing everything they can to support local governments reduce the risk.

"Bushfires in the WA landscape are a reality and the Mitigation Activity Fund grants program helps local governments prepare for that possibility,” Mr Whitby said.
