Our Commitment to Young Children

Our Commitment to Young Children
16 Aug 2022

The Shire's Early Years Strategy was adopted by Council and is a commitment to place a focus on strengthening families and creating an even better community.

Bright Futures: A Strategy for Children and Families shows the Shire's commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of children aged zero to nine years in our region.

Adopted by Council in March this year, the development of the Strategy was guided by conversations with children, families; and services in the early childhood, care and development sectors.

Bright Futures sets out to achieve four goals with supporting actions and priority projects over the next five years.

  1. Making Stronger Connections: advocate and partner to ensure the voices of our children and families are valued.
  2. Supporting Families: Connecting opportunities that contribute to strong family foundations.
  3. Child-Centred Decisions: Promote the participation of children for a more inclusive, empowered, child-friendly community.
  4. Active and Healthy Opportunities: Strengthen the health and wellbeing of children and families through the importance of play.

What would you do if you were Shire President for a day?

We asked some of the youngest members of our community what they would do if they were Shire President for a day, and some of the answers are sure to make you laugh.

Thanks to the schools that volunteered their students and we look forward to seeing what the future holds.
