Visitors to Binningup Beach are being asked to participate in a project to identify how they use and value local beaches.
CoastSnap is an initiative that involves the community contributing to beach monitoring by inviting them to take and submit photos of the beach at one of the nine CoastSnap photo monitoring points installed at a number of beaches between Rockingham and Busselton.
Beaches involved in the CoastSnap WA initiative include Mersey Point Jetty, Rockingham; Silver Sands, Mandurah; Heron Point, Birchmont; Preston Beach; Binningup Beach; Eaton Foreshore; Dolphin Discovery Centre, Bunbury; Dalyellup Beach; and Busselton Jetty.
Simply put your phone in the fixed smartphone camera stand, take a snap and follow the instructions to share or email your photo. This will provide valuable data to measure how much the coastline changes and what causes these changes. You will also have an option to participate in a 5-minute survey regarding the beach and its value to you.
This initiative is being undertaken by the Peron Naturaliste Partnership (PNP) in collaboration with researchers at The University of Western Australia.
