The Shire of Harvey is seeking public feedback on the draft Sport and Recreation Plan 2033 to guide decision-making and investment over the next decade.

The Shire of Harvey is seeking public feedback on the draft Sport and Recreation Plan 2033 to guide decision-making and investment over the next decade.

Shire of Harvey Council endorsed the public consultation period yesterday at the Tuesday, 25 July Ordinary Council Meeting.

The Plan will be an important tool to direct future resource priorities, major projects and initiatives that support participation in community sport and active recreation.

It will also serve as a blueprint to grow and improve local sporting infrastructure, facilities and reserves in service of the Harvey Region’s projected population growth.

The Shire has already begun engaging with local sports clubs and organisations through the Sports and Recreation Advisory Group to obtain valuable feedback.

Shire of Harvey President Cr Paul Gillett said sport and physical activity were intrinsic to the Harvey Region’s identity and he said the Shire considered enhancing local infrastructure to be a top priority.

He also said the Shire was committed to helping the sporting community thrive so it would continue to produce top talent like professional netballer and sharp shooter Donnell Wallam.

“Our Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031 showed our residents really value an active lifestyle, including sport, and we are determined to provide the best opportunities and facilities we can moving forward,” he said.

“The outcomes of this Plan will detail where Council puts its attention over the next decade.

“As one of the fastest growing local government areas in Western Australia, we anticipate increased demand for sports and recreation facilities.

“We are encouraging the community to think about what this means for our sports, our clubs and our facilities.

“Public consultation is an important part of making sure the Plan meets the needs of the community today and over the next decade.”

The Shire appointed COX Architecture and Paatsch Group to develop the Sport and Recreation Plan concurrently with Needs Assessments and Concept Plans for the Leschenault Recreation Park, Brunswick Junction Recreation Ground, Harvey Recreation Ground, Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre and Binningup town site.
