We have celebrated seven remarkable award recipients at our annual Homegrown Heroes ceremony.
These winners have amazing volunteer histories and have contributed significantly to local clubs and projects.
The event was held at Brunswick Bowling Club and it was a fantastic night.

Meritorious Award - Fiore Rando
Fiore Rando’s contributions span decades of community leadership. A former Harvey Councillor, teacher and civic advocate, Fiore helped shape the Kemerton Industrial Park and championed education and cultural inclusion. His service in local clubs, including Rotary and the Harvey Tennis Club, and his passion for teaching have left a lasting legacy.
Appreciation Award - Craig Maughan
Craig Maughan has been a driving force behind the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre and local cricket. As President of HRCC and the Harvey-Benger Cricket Club, Craig’s leadership, vision and volunteer spirit have enriched our sport and recreation landscape for more than two decades.
Appreciation Award - Phil Musitano
Phil Musitano is the heart of Brunswick Junction. From founding the fire brigade to 55 years with the Lions Club and tireless efforts at the Brunswick Show, Phil has supported generations of locals through service, fundraising and mentorship.
Appreciation Award - Kate Pfoeffer
Kate Pfoeffer has transformed the Australind Swimming Club through leadership, volunteering and adaptability. From President to coach, her work has doubled membership, sustained programs through setbacks, and built a thriving, inclusive club community.
Youth Award - Ethan Nankivell
Ethan Nankivell is a young leader making waves in sport, music, and community service. From tennis and school leadership to performing at ANZAC events and mentoring through music, Ethan inspires through action, service and heart.
Community Group Award - St John Ambulance
St John Ambulance volunteers are vital to community safety, contributing over 13,000 hours in 2024 alone. Their outreach, training and event support have saved lives and strengthened local resilience for nearly a century.
Community Group Award - Brunswick River Cottages Committee
The Brunswick River Cottages Committee has delivered 31 age-friendly homes in the heart of Brunswick Junction. Their volunteer-led efforts provide safe, affordable housing with community connection at its core.
