WA Health is advising South West residents and visitors to take precautions against mosquito bites following the season’s first detection of Ross River virus (RRV) in mosquitoes. Barmah Forest virus (BFV) has also been detected, though no recent human cases have been reported in the region.
Simple steps to reduce the risk include wearing long, loose-fitting clothing, using insect repellent, and removing standing water around the home.
