You're invited to help shape the Shire of Harvey’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
RAPs outline actions an organisation can take to build stronger, more inclusive communities.
They could feature initiatives such as celebrating NAIDOC Week, offering cultural awareness training or boosting participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses in supply chains.
We have launched a survey to gather input on what the RAP should include.
Shire of Harvey President Michelle Campbell said the Shire was also seeking Expressions of Interest to be part of a RAP Working Group.
“We’re looking for people who are passionate about Reconciliation to be a guiding hand in this process,” she said.
“Working Group members will help the Shire transform community aspirations into actionable items – they will also bring their own ideas to the table.
“We want to understand the range of different perspectives out there, what the Shire should prioritise and where we could improve.”
Launching a RAP process is a key commitment outlined in the Shire’s newly endorsed Council Plan.
This initiative is part of the Shire’s strategy to create an increasingly safe and accessible community where everybody feels they can contribute and belong.
After feedback is collected, the Shire will develop a draft Plan and share this proposal with Council and the community.
Once endorsed, the RAP will be registered with Reconciliation Australia and progress will be frequently reported through Shire information channels.
The Shire President said the recently launched consultation process was the beginning of a long- term commitment toward Reconciliation.
“This is a shared journey, and we want everybody to have a say in how we move forward,” the Shire President said.
“So, please share your thoughts. We’re listening.”
