Harvey Community Precinct Update
30 Aug 2022

After extensive community consultation over the past year the Harvey Community Precinct Master Plan has been given the green light.

The Harvey Community Precinct project has now moved to the design and development phase after extensive community consultation over the past year.

At its Ordinary Meeting in August, Council endorsed the final Master Plan for the project which includes the development of a dynamic community hub featuring an arts precinct, library and indigenous centre. The Harvey Community Resource Centre and radio studio will also form part of the precinct in addition to an administrative centre including a large community meeting room that will also serve as a Council Chamber.

Shire of Harvey President Paul Gillett said the consultation process with the community started in June last year when feedback was collated on the draft Master Plan.

“We have listened to the community’s needs and aspirations for this project and thank everyone for their input into the project so far,” Cr Gillett said.

“There has been extensive consultation through our reference group for this project and it has provided a platform for community representatives to give guidance and feedback relating to the project’s development.

“It is exciting that we can now proceed to design and development, as it has been a flagship project for 30 years and this design will cater to the community’s needs now and into the future.”

He said the town’s heritage was an important part of the project and the design included the preservation of the Harvey Town Hall, church, library façade and RSL Hall. The St Anne’s classroom building and former infant health building have been recognised as having historical importance and as they are not heritage listed, they will be recorded prior to work proceeding.

More details about the project will be published as the consultants proceed with the design development phase of the project.
